When the Bough Breaks (1994)

When the Bough Breaks is the gruesome tale of a serial killer and his twisted reasons for committing these senseless killings. One 4th of July, two youths stumble across a terrible find. They discover a plastic bag containing seven severed hands belonging to young children. The police are called in and recruit the help of Investigator Audrey McCleah of the State Crime Department to investigate this hideous crime. When Audrey begins to delve deeper and deeper into this case, she discovers that a young boy, Jordan Thomas, mute by choice, is the key to solving this horrible mystery. It seems that Jordan has a twin sister, Jennifer, who was born with severely deformed hands and a cleft pallet. She was pronounced dead at birth by the attending physician...Dr. Thomas, their father. Audrey, not believing that Jennifer is truly dead, sets out to find the real story behind this increasingly complicated murder mystery.

Animal action is limited to two scenes. In one scene a young girl is running through the grass with her German Shepherd on a leash. She stops at an ice cream truck and leaves the dog sitting outside the truck while she fetches the ice cream. A man comes up behind the girl and accosts her, causing the dog to bark at the man. The dog had responded to verbal commands from his trainer to speak. The dog received food as a reward. In the other scene a woman is seen holding her pet poodle in her lap and petting it.
