Rockwell (1994)

Rockwell is a biographical adventure about Porter Rockwell, an early Mormon leader. Based on actual historical events and individuals the story traces the beginning of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints from Illinois to Utah. Rockwell begins in 1844 as a family of Mormon settlers are gunned down outside their home. The Mormons are being persecuted everywhere. Their founder, Joseph Smith, is taken into custody on orders from the governor and is soon killed by vigilantes who break into his room with guns blazing. After this event, Porter vows that nothing will be the same. He learns to fire a gun and teaches other men to shoot. Passifists no longer, he becomes a defender of his people. Possessing a massive main of hair, myths spring up about Rockwell that he can't be killed because of his hair and, like Samson, it is the source of his strength. With this aura of myth about him and armed with staunch determination, Rockwell becomes a formidable defender of his people.
